The main aim of this conference, held on 13 and 14 November and jointly organised by the linguistic and educational cooperation section of the French embassy in Hungary and Hungary's Academy of Sciences, was to develop reflection on the political future and governance of the EU.
Some 20 participants - MEPs, researchers and embassy representatives - put forward various viewpoints and approaches on "The Political Future of the European Union - Democracy and Governance" and "The French EU Presidency and the Central European Countries".
The conference was closed by a final round table discussion bringing together the European embassies in Hungary who set out the preparation of the presidencies of the Council of the EU until 2011 (France, Czech Republic, Sweden, Spain, Belgium and Hungary).
