From 19th to 24th November 2008Practical
Several venues in Paris (see below)Mehmet Yashin, born in Cyprus in 1958, is considered to be one of the leading poets writing in Turkish of his generation. He is a member of a Cypriot family marked by the changes and ravaged by the conflicts pervading the history of the island.
Many members of his family were killed, deported or listed missing during the inter-communal violence during Christmas 1963.
He dedicated his first collection Dead soldier my love, "to all the victims of Cypriot wars" which had been published in 1984. It was awarded the Turkish Academy Poetry Prize and the A.Kadir Poetry Prize. In 1986 the military government banned this work and expelled him from his homeland. He only returned in 1993.
The Constantinople waits for no-one anthology, translated into French by Alain Mascarou (Bleu Autour), is a collection of his most remarkable poems and essays.
