Meetings in the Reunion Island

Born in 1950 in Luxembourg, he now lives in Paris, where he pursues a multi-form career, including writing, translation and journalism.
Though a poet acknowledged by his peers, Portante has also written many stories and plays too. He was awarded the Mallarmé Prize in 2003 for The Strange Language (L'étrange langue), and was also awarded the Autumn Grand Prix of the SGDL in 2003 for his entire poetical works.
We recall that, among his most admired works, the success he had with The Memory of the Whale (La mémoire de la baleine, Castor Astral), and has now been translated in several countries. Tirelessly continuing his investigation of language Jean Portante carves his work down to word level, as is shown by his two latest works: Lung work (Le travail du poumon, Castor Astral, 2007) and In reality (En réalité, Phi, 2008).
