Born in Budapest in 1929. Imre Kertész was deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau in 1944.
He was freed from the Buchenwald camp in 1945 and then worked as a journalist for the daily Vilagossag. A victim of Stalinism, he lost this job.
He started to work on Fatelessness in 1961. It took him 10 years to complete it.
The Refusal was published in 1988 followed by 1990 Kaddish for a child not born in 1990.
He became very famous in the nineties, first in Germany, and then worldwide. In 2002 he was awarded a Nobel Prize in Literature.
Actes Sud has published all Imre Kertész's works in France. The K File (essay) and Another: chronicle of a metamorphosis were published in 2008 in translations by Natalia Zaremba-Huzsvai and Charles Zaremba.
