In a context marked particularly by this summer's crisis, the 9th EU-Georgia Cooperation Council should enable a review of the relations between the EU and Georgia and confirm Tbilisi's commitment to continuing the implementation of the 2006 action plan.
In the spirit of the conclusions of the Extraordinary European Council Meeting on 1 September 2008, the EU-Georgia Cooperation Council will enable the EU to specify modalities for strengthening its relations with Georgia with regard to visas, trade and assistance, particularly following the Georgia donors' conference on 22 October.
This Cooperation Council should also provide an opportunity to discuss, at ministerial level, regional and international issues affecting security and stability in the region. A first assessment of the deployment of the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM), the donors' conference on 22 October and negotiations launched in Geneva on 15 October may also take place.
