The 9th EU-Azerbaijan Cooperation Council, to be held on the margins of the General Affairs and External Relations Council, will help to evaluate the progress of the action plan adopted in 2006, the date on which the EU decided to include the countries of the Southern Caucasus (Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia) in its neighbourhood policy.
This meeting is part of a broader approach based on the EU's commitment to deepening its relations with the countries in the Southern Caucasus and promoting stability in the region. Ministers will discuss regional and international issues directly affecting security and stability in the region and also have in-depth discussions on relations with Russia and the situation in the Caucasus.
