Presided over by Jean-Louis Borloo, the French Minister for Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development and Regional Development, the European seminar on energy security brought together actors from the energy sector and representatives of the European Commission, the EU Member States, international organisations, enterprises, and civil society.
The seminar outlined guidelines for a potential EU energy security policy in terms of the energy supply for the European Union in the long term, along with tools for managing and preventing crises. The emphasis was placed on the need to improve energy efficiency, develop renewable energies, diversify energy sources and supply routes, and to step up dialogue with hydrocarbon producing countries.
