- from: 15.12.2008
- to: 19.12.2008
agenda
From 15th to 19th December 2008Practical
Several venues in France (see below)Adam Zagajewski was born in Lwów in 1945. After studying philosophy and psychology, he published his first book in 1972. An essay written with Julian Kornhauser followed: a manifesto of the young generation calling for a simpler, clearer and more realistic literature.
In 1976 his name was added to the "black list" of writers known for their subversive activities.
He then faced censorship and firmly positioned his writing in his act of resistance. He spends his time between Krakow and the USA.
A collection of literary essays In Defence of Passion (published in French as Eloge de la ferveur, trans. Laurence Dyèvre) in which Zagajewski evokes both Nietzsche and Milosz while outlining the contours of a poetical landscape situated in the far reaches of memory was published this spring.
