Practical
National Opera of Paris (Bastille), 120 rue de Lyon, 75012 Paris
Like the programme called "Ten months of School and of Opera", which is completely integrated into teaching, the European project enables 100 young people from four European countries, for more than one year, to benefit from workshops offering artistic practice in singing, the dance and music at the Paris Opera, as well as in the cultural institutions of each partner country. They will put on a joint show called "From Verona or from elsewhere" (on the theme of Romeo and Juliet), which they will give on the stage of the Opéra Bastille amphitheatre on 19-20-21 December 2008, at the same time as presentation of the exhibition of posters (on the Romeo and Juliet theme) made by all of the European students.
They will also be in direct contact with the various disciplines present at the Paris Opera (more than 100 disciplines), as well as in the artistic institutions of the partner countries.
The theme of Romeo and Juliet, timeless and universal, exploited in literature, the lyric art and choreography as well as the European project as a whole, will enable the young people to open some new doors, to invest the European space with an eye on intercultural dialogue promoting exchanges, awakening of the critical sense, a respect for otherness, tolerance and paternal feelings, but also - because of the European project is integrated into education - to highlight the students' efforts by way of meaningful activities that will gradually lead them along the path to success.
This wide-ranging project is being launched at the initiative Danièle Fouache, who is responsible for the "Ten months of School and of Opera" programme, and it is supported by the national Opera of Paris in partnership with cultural institutions in three European countries: the Muztheater in Amsterdam (Netherlands), the Teatro Lirico in Cagliari (Sardinia), and Magyar Allami Operahaz of Budapest (Hungary).
