Studying a work of literature, from a foreign perspective, requires a double criticism, that of the original work and that of the translated work, a second text for which questions arise concerning: reasons behind its meaning during translation into the new language; the veracity of the text in the target language compared with what is written in the source language; the adaptation of the work to the requirements of the foreign receptor polysystem and its place in the host country.
A number of questions will be addressed during the symposium in Lille: what choice gives preference to one French work over another? What is the percentage of gain and loss during translation from one language to another? Has the essence of the text been preserved? Has a style equivalent to the original been found in the target language?
Over the two study days, it will be remembered that carrying out a literary criticism of the translation of French works into a "different" language is also a "productive and seminal" act, to the extent that, in translation, "something of the original appears which did not appear in the source language.
