In Arles

Les Rencontres d'Arles :

For 38 years now, the Rencontres d'Arles have been organising the world's leading photo venue.
This event, called "le Cannes de la photographie", displays talents and leads the photographic discussion.
From major exhibitions to encounters, from training sessions to lectures, the Rencontres d'Arles constitute a formidable observation point for viewing photographic creation.

A new fall season in images: the "young public" events of that season

Enter some surprising spaces, decode the intense and multiple images found there, query the artists on display…
7 300 students and their teachers will come by after the end of the 2008 summer holiday season to savour a bit of festival together.
For the 5th version, the "Rencontres d'Arles" offer a whole day to 250 classes at the centre of the exhibitions - to "let people see", but also to "learn how to look".
The challenge is a big one: "a person who does not learn how to decipher photographs will be the illiterate person of the future", Walter Benjamin used to say.

An event all over the city :

The various activities offered are divided up among the city of Arles' major venues:
The former workshops of the SNCF railway system (7000 m2 of exhibition space), the Van Gogh space, the Higher National School of Photography, the city's monuments and culture structures.
