Finnish company Circo Aero overturns the symbols of 20th-century circus with this innovative show.
The audience is invited to immerse itself in a childhood world reinterpreted by adults.
agenda
At the Festival des Sept Collines in St Etienne, July 9th and 10th, 2008Jani Nuutinen's approach, and his show "Un cirque plus juste", is based around the following premise: a circus without the fanfares and pomp of Pinder or Bouglione but rather on a human scale. The scale of just one man, in fact - Nuutinen himself, who puts on his show with total independence. It is "precisely" his size, and it is "more precise" as its structure enables it to position itself just where the public has lost touch with shows.
When you enter Jani Nuutinen's minuscule tent, a candle lights up and his silhouette appears. In carpet slippers and an old dressing gown, calm, this impressively-built ringmaster reveals a few small pearls from his secret garden. With very commonplace objects, unearthed in junk shops, he creates a spectacular and dream-like world as he goes along, using what comes to hand, tying in with his childhood memories. A master of shadow theatre, an illusionist, a manipulator of objects, he transforms and animates them, while all the time attending to his day-to-day tasks.
A craftsman of the marvellous, a juggler of the ordinary, he shares with the audience intimate and surprising moments of life, marked by a wholesome nostalgia.
