For its 19th version (2 to 7 July 2008), the FIDMarseille provided a parallel screen called "Traduire l'Europe" (Films by European movie-makers offering a vision of their national realities).

This programme grouped togther films made by European cineastes offering a unique vision of their national or transnational realities. This selection emphasised films from and/or based on the new European countries, particularly countries in Eastern Europe, whose socio-political, cultural and even geographical context suffer from an obvious lack of illumination. But far from being a tourist approach, the film material included in this programming, itself, bore witness to the great artistic vitality of those countries and to the unique types of cinematographic writing to which that vitality is giving rise to.
Which Europe or Europes did these films show us? These films, which will be neither journalistic descriptions of a real or fantastical territory nor an inventory of European cinema practice, will represent attempts to translate European reality. Thus going beyond mere juxtaposition of works, the aim of this programme was to create a fertile dialogue between the films (possible debates with the directors present).
Alongside the schedule of films, a round table was organised offering the perspectives and critical discussion. The directors were asked to participate, and the same applied to several intellectual, literary or political figures.
