Fondation Lagardère
This European cultural Season offers a unique opportunity for promoting, in France, all of the creativity and diversity of European culture. It will also enable performers and French cultural institutions to establish relationships with Europeans. This is the case with the Comédie-Française, which for six months, from Sofia to Tallinn, will present
Les Précieuses Ridicules, directed by Dan Jemmett, with support offered by the Jean-Luc Lagardère Foundation.
Why have you decided to support this event?
The European idea is at the core of the Foundation's actions. Since its creation two years ago, we have supported the Europavox Festival, in Clermont-Ferrand. That contemporary music festival brings in groups and young "ambassadors" from the Union's twenty-seven countries. We also support the festival of e-magicians of Valenciennes which features the best European students in the field of digital creation. So we felt great enthusiasm in answering "present" in order to accompany this European cultural season.
More generally, what kinds of support does your company provide for cultural activities?
These days, with more than 255 000 euros in grants awarded to young cultural and media professionals, the Jean-Luc Lagardère Foundation is asserted itself as the leading sponsor of useful creation in France. With a strong presence in literature and music, the Foundation is opening up to all image trades: photography, the cinema, television, animation, documentaries, digital creation. In addition, within the framework of the European cultural Season, it will support the event called "Images in the night" at the Grand Palais in Paris, in December 2008. The Foundation also tries to facilitate access to culture for young people from disadvantaged districts. It creates mobility between the suburbs and the Paris cultural centres, and suggests cultural action programmes to sports associations that they support.
