The European cultural Season, organised to celebrate the beginning of the French presidency of the European Union, offers an opportunity to take part in an event that refers to different cultures, to sharing of knowledge and dialogue with all, which we attempt to develop every day in our various activities. Dexia is the first European bank resulting from the merger of two establishments of different nationalities (France and Belgium), so the pluri-culturality and Europe are in our genes and in the very core of our development.

Why have you decided to support this event?
The project called "Flamenco. Avant-garde and popular culture in Spain, 1865-1936" illustrates the cultural contribution made by one country, Spain, to the artistic creation of an important period in art.
Dexia, a world leader in financial services for the local public sector, has long been aware of the importance that citizens give to management and preservation of local heritages, particularly when they have cultural importance.

More generally, what kinds of support does your company provide for cultural activities?
In each of the countries in which it has activities, Dexia follows sponsorship-patronage policies and supports culture by way of its local entities, in partnership with the territorial authorities.
In France, the group is a sponsor of the Avignon Festival. In several European countries it has developed a policy for protecting and highlighting the local heritage, illustrated, in particular, in two prestigious private collections and in the support provided for art publications.
It is within the framework of that commitment that we put a proposal to the Petit Palais in Paris to lend works from our Belgian collection for the exhibition called « Flamenco-Avant-garde and popular culture in Spain. 1865-1936 ».

So we are very happy that two of our works, one by James Ensor called « Portrait of the guitarist Dario de Regoyos » and one by Théo Van Rysselberghe called « Spanish spleen » (study of Dario de Regoyos) were selected for presentation to the public in this magnificent exhibition.
