Statement by the Presidency of the Council of the European Union on the political situation in Somalia

The Presidency of the Council of the European Union takes notes of the resignation of the Somali President, which comes after a period of uncertainty due to internal disputes within the Transitional Federal Government.
It welcomes President’s Yusuf’s efforts in favour of peace in Somalia.
It hopes that the Transitional Federal Government will implement without delay the Djibouti agreements in the interest of a political solution to the crisis, which is the only means of restoring security and peace.
