New IT applications in the legal domain and the legal information market in Europe
European conference on IT applications in the legal sphere

The first European conference on IT applications in the legal domain will be held from 10 to 12 December 2008 in Paris. An initiative of the General Secretariat of the French Government, the purpose of this conference is to publicise the advances being made in Europe with regard to new IT applications in the legal sphere. By making it easier to access and develop legislation, over the last ten years the internet has contributed to creating a real European digital legal area. In this context, this conference will provide an opportunity to compare legal systems and the legal standards that allow their digital dissemination.
Like the global scientific information market, the European legal information market is rapidly developing and these developments are accelerating under the growing influence of new regulations imposed by the network economy. In this context, the General Secretariat of the French Government has invited stakeholders from both the public and private sectors from EU Member States and the countries influenced by Community legislation to attend, including:
- the heads of Official Gazettes;
- the European Forum of Official Gazettes (bringing together the bodies responsible for publishing official texts in the EU Member States and the Publications Office of the European Union);
- the French Association for the Development of Legal Information (ADIJ);
- the French Association of the Information Industry (GFII), a professional association of public and private players in the digital information industry;
- the 'Juriconnexion' association of users of legal documentary products on-line;
- the 'Association Henri Capitant des amis de la culture juridique française', a French association for the promotion of French legal culture, and its European sister associations;
- the French association of information and documentation professionals (ADBS);
- the 'Droit.org' association.
This conference will feature round tables with experts who will review the progress made and the future prospects for legal information. Presentations to showcase new projects and practical workshops will be organised to find operational solutions to the problems facing professionals.
