The annual Energy Charter conference will take place in Athens on 28 November.
The discussions of the annual energy charter conference will focus mainly on the future of the transit protocol, which aims to facilitate the transit of energy materials and products in line with the principle of free transit without distinction made on the origin, destination or ownership of such energy materials or products.
The Energy Charter brings together some fifty countries, mainly in Europe and the former Soviet Union. It aims to promote energy cooperation between its members through open markets, the harmonisation of regulations and encouragement of investment. For the European Union, it is a means of securing and diversifying its supplies, by contributing to the economic and political stabilisation of its main suppliers.
