A European conference dedicated to climate change and natural disaster prevention is being held on 27 and 28 November in Paris, as part of the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union. This conference will allow economic players that use market levers - investment, purchase, norm establishment and performance assessment - to debate a joint plan of action on the basis of voluntary initiatives, to accelerate the implementation of the EU's objectives for 2020.
This meeting focused on the EU's objectives on climate change, renewable energy and energy efficiency for 2020.
It aims to analyse the ability of different economic players to increase the effectiveness of resource management as quickly as possible by using their means of action to lever the market. To accelerate the implementation of the EU's objectives on the reduction of CO2 emissions and contribute to increasing renewable energy share and energy efficiency, economic players using market levers such as investment, purchase, norm establishment and performance assessment, can play a decisive role. It should be noted that if trends remain unchanged, the EU's objectives on climate change, renewable energy and energy efficiency for 2020 will not be reached.
The conference will lead to identifying new initiatives and best practices in terms of partnerships, indicators and guidelines in investment and purchase terms. A strategy within the framework of an action plan for 2008-2010, aimed at creating effects of scale, will integrate these initiatives and allow quicker implementation of the measures planned under the 2020 objectives in the EU and the Member States.
