Declaration by the Presidency of the Council of the European Union on the conduct of the legislative elections in Guinea-Bissau

The Presidency of the Council of the European Union welcomes the proper conduct of the parliamentary elections in Guinea-Bissau, the results of which will be announced shortly by the president of the national electoral commission.
These elections, marked by a high turnout and conducted in a peaceful atmosphere, are a success for Guinea-Bissau which thus confirms its democratic basis.
The Presidency welcomes the civic-mindedness and sense of responsibility the people of Guinea-Bissau demonstrated throughout the election process.
We encourage all the political parties in Guinea-Bissau to respect the forthcoming election outcome so that the country can continue to build a safe and prosperous future.
