he Ethics Unit of the AP-HP (Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris - Paris Hospital Administration) and the Department of Research in Ethics at University Paris-Sud 11, instigators of the Pandemic, Ethics and Society Platform, are holding a meeting within the framework of the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union on the ethical issues involved in flu pandemic preparedness.
The AP-HP, the largest hospital group in Europe, is the main organiser and host of the meeting which seeks to contribute to dialogue on these sensitive questions and will highlight the convergence and divergence between the different ethical approaches useful for governance and political and institutional reflection in the areas of public and individual health. The World Health Organization (WHO) is one of the event's sponsors and has been engaged in a global consideration of these issues for over a year.
Directly following on from the EUROGRIPPE meeting, held at Angers in October 2008, this conference will help give fresh impetus to discussions at French and European level.
