The EU ministers responsible for equality between women and men are to meet on 14 November 2008 in Lille.
Two issues will be on the agenda: reducing wage gaps and best practices in terms of professional equality in companies.
This meeting will follow on from the conference of 13 and 14 November 2008 on "Professional equality between women and men, the demographic challenge and the economic stakes".
It will focus on two essential issues:
- How can wage gaps between women and men be reduced and eliminated?
- How can best practices in companies be encouraged?
The first half of the meeting will enable a debate on the aims and means put in place in the Member States to reduce wage gaps.
The second half will be devoted to an exchange of views between the Member States on the ways to enhance best practices in terms of professional quality that already exist in European companies, and on the tools implemented in certain Member States to enhance, promote and encourage them.
The meeting will be followed by a presentation of a statement by the 2nd Trio Presidency (France, Czech Republic and Sweden), devoted to the promotion of equality between women and men.
