The French Minister for the Economy, Industry and Employment, Christine Lagarde, invites her European counterparts to discuss the European cluster strategy.

The European Commission has adopted a communication on a Community strategy for world class clusters.
In this context, the French Minister for the Economy, Industry and Employment has decided to organise a ministerial conference on 14 November in Paris to discuss this European strategy and contribute to preparing the conclusions of the Competitiveness Council on 1 and 2 December 2008.

This ministerial conference will be based on the work carried out during the 4th Competitiveness Clusters Forum on 13 November in Sophia Antipolis to enable European and international stakeholders to discuss the conditions for creating effective European clusters at international level.

Many European countries, particularly Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and Hungary, have also developed policies based on the concept of clusters, with different methods based on national institutional, scientific and industrial contexts.

Competitiveness clusters were first created in France in 2005. They aim to bring together manufacturers, researchers and training institutes to strengthen corporate competitiveness and develop employment on markets with high potential.
