The first meeting of its kind, this ministerial troïka between the European Union (EU) and the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) marks a new stage in the development of EU relations with the African regional economic communities.
This ministerial troika, in addition to the European Union - African Union partnership, marks notable progress in relations and political dialogue between the EU and the African regional economic communities.
Three issues will dominate discussions at ministerial level: regional questions, and particularly regional crises (Democratic Republic of the Congo, Chad and the Central African Republic); "global" issues such as the food crisis and economic development; and peace and security matters, with a special focus on the possible role for the European Union in ECCAS capacity building.
