Statement by the Presidency of the Council of the European Union on the Attacks in Somalia
- On: 29.10.2008
The Presidency of the Council of the European Union condemns in the strongest terms this morning’s attacks in the villages of Hargeisa and Bosasso in Somalia that specifically targeted United Nations buildings and causing dozens of victims.
It expresses its deep concern with respect to the destabilising consequences of these attacks for Somalia, and particularly Puntland and Somaliland.
The Presidency of the Council of the European Union is in contact with the UNDP in Hargeisa with a view to treating injured UN personnel at the French medical centre in Djibouti.
It reaffirms its support for the United Nations agencies and personnel working in Somalia and their vital action to help the Somali people.
