Statement by the Presidency of the Council of the European Union on the death of five Chinese hostages in Sudan

The Presidency of the Council of the European Union condemns the kidnapping of the Chinese nationals in South Kordofan and its tragic outcome. It deplores the deaths of five of the hostages.
It conveys its condolences to the victims’ families and loved ones and expresses its solidarity with the Chinese government.
The Presidency of the Council of the European Union calls on the kidnappers to immediately and unconditionally release the two remaining hostages. It calls on all the parties to work for their peaceful release.
The Presidency of the Council of the European Union hopes that these events will be fully clarified, particularly the circumstances relating to the kidnapping and those leading to the deaths of five of the hostages.
