The new secure documents developed by all the countries of the European Union combine smart card and biometric technologies and can simplify everyday life for citizens in important, though often unknown, ways. Under the aegis of the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the French national agency for secure documents ('Agence Nationale des Titres Sécurisés' - ANTS) is organising a conference on 23 and 24 October next in Charleville-Mézières. The aim of this event is to highlight the benefits of these new secure documents through exchanges of experiences between European partners a few months before the entry into circulation of the biometric passport in several EU countries.
These new secure documents, thanks to the electronic features they contain, allow citizens to perform administrative or personal tasks remotely within the countries of the European Union. They will be a strong element of integration in the European area.
The long-term goal is to develop all the procedures aimed at simplifying and facilitating administrative procedures, thereby simplifying and facilitating relations between citizens and administrations.
