National drugs coordinators will debate the new ways of consuming alcohol, particularly in the context of poly-consumption, and the communication on illegal drugs.

At this meeting organised by the Interministerial Mission for the Fight against Drugs and Drug Addiction (MILDT) on 22 October, the EU's national drugs coordinators are scheduled to debate the current problems with regard to the EU's drug action plan, including in-depth discussion of two subjects introduced by a series of specialist presentations: the question of how to take better account of the new ways to consume alcohol, in particular in the context of poly-consumption; and the question of educating the public on illegal drugs.

This twice-yearly meeting, which has an informal status, supplements at European level the meetings in Brussels of the 'horizontal working party on drugs', which is essentially an expert working group. The national coordinators meeting is intended to be more political and strategic in nature, in line the mission it was originally given and which the French Presidency hopes to revive.
