A high-level conference with the national armaments directors will be held in Brussels on 14 October next. The directors are expected to propose concrete initiatives to reinforce the European Defence Technological and Industrial Base (EDTIB) and the discussions will include input from representatives of the European defence industry, the European institutions (particularly the European Defence Agency - EDA), the European Commission, the European Parliament, and representatives from the EU Member States. The meeting will be concluded with a speech from the French defence minister.
The main issues to be discussed during this meeting include better integration of SMEs in defence projects; improving the business environment, research in the field of armaments and the implementation of the EDA strategy to reinforce the European EDTIB.
The conference should create new prospects for integration of the European defence industry, emphasising a pragmatic and concrete approach. The conclusions of this event will be sent to the defence ministers of each Member State and to the European institutions.
