Meeting of the European Union's chief veterinary officers
- from: 13.10.2008
- to: 15.10.2008
- In: European Parliament, Strasbourg.
In the context of the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the French Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries is holding the informal meeting of the group of chief veterinary officers (CVOs) from 13 to 15 October 2008 in Strasbourg.
This event, which combines both working sessions and field visits, is traditionally organised by the Member State holding the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. It brings together the heads of veterinary administrations at Community level and in the Member States. Between 130 and 150 participants are expected to attend.
On Monday, 13 October, and on Wednesday morning, 15 October, the meeting will be held at the European Parliament in Strasbourg. In particular, it will provide an opportunity to debate the following two topics:
- the modernisation of slaughterhouse health inspections, with a presentation of and debate on the conclusions of the technical seminar of 7-11 July 2008 held at the National Veterinary School in Lyon (Marcy l'Étoile) in the context of the French Presidency;
-the strategy for cooperation between the EU and Africa on veterinary topics, specifically within the framework of the Barcelona Process (the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership).
Other subjects could also be addressed during the meeting, if there are any topical health-related issues.
On 14 October, the day's session will be devoted to technical visits (the primatology centre of the Louis Pasteur University in Strasbourg and the Heineken brewery).
