The European Forum for Architectural Policies will organize a conference, open to professionals from across Europe, in partnership with the Arc-en-Rêve architecture centre in Bordeaux. Its aim is to create a dynamic process in which skills and experience can be exchanged in the field of architecture, while taking sustainable development issues into consideration. Participants will conduct a critical analysis of the situation, develop new ways of thinking about and acting on the issue, and of influencing decisions made in relation to architectural and urban policies.
All too often sustainable development, as it is most commonly understood, is reduced to the idea of respecting established standards and countering the risk of standardisation and the loss of organisational and creative variety in our towns and cities.
Environmental pressures are now such that we must progress to the next stage, called the 'post-production' phase. Rooted in our critical analysis of current production conditions, this phase aims to take into account, beyond the careful management of energy resources, the social, economic and cultural aspects of architectural and urban projects.
We should be asking ourselves a great many questions. How can we build our cities differently? How can we refashion the processes of architectural creativity in the context of globalisation and the age of sustainable development?
These are the questions that leading institutional, cultural and professional players in the field of architecture in Europe will endeavour to answer in Bordeaux between 9 and 11 October.
