The professional organisations of the Aerospace and Defence Industries (GIFAS, the French Aerospace Industries Association and CIDEF, French Defence Industries Council) will host the annual ASD convention on 9 and 10 October.
This event, which is held annually in October in a large European city (Barcelona in 2007, Vienna in 2006, Berlin in 2005), brings together some 600 professionals mainly from the industry and governments concerned. The French Aerospace Industry is also celebrating its centenary and wanted to combine its own celebration with the ASD Convention by inviting its European colleagues to Paris.
The programme, which this year carries the theme "Towards 2050 - A secure future", will include the following key events on Friday, 10 October:
- the plenary opening session of the Convention at the start of the morning includes addresses by the ASD Chairman, Ake Svensson, Chairman of the Swedish company SAAB, and Jean-Pierre Jouyet, French Minister of State for European Affairs;
- followed by four round tables devoted to air transport, space, defence and security;
- the Convention's closing session will be devoted to presenting the morning's work. Speakers will include the Chairman of the Aerospace Industries Association of America (AIA), the ASD's new Chairman Allan Cook, the Chairman of the British firm COBHAM, and the European Commissioner Jacques Barrot, Vice-President of the European Commission.
