Statement of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union on Georgia

The Presidency of the Council of the European Union condemns the acts of violence that have taken place in recent days in Georgia, be they the murders of Georgian police officers or the attack this afternoon in Tskhinvali that resulted in several Russian deaths.
It extends its condolences to the families and friends of the victims and to the Georgian and Russian authorities.
It hopes that these acts will be investigated thoroughly. Every effort should be made to preserve peace and security in this region.
