The impact of European legislation on local public policies
- On: 02.10.2008
- In: Paris, town hall of the 5th arrondissement
This conference is organised by the 'Maison européenne des pouvoirs locaux français' (an umbrella group of French local authority associations).
As around 70% of local legislation is based on European Community law, the aim of the conference is to measure the extent to which Community law affects local governance and to compare the French and European approaches in tackling this challenge.
To better understand the impact of Community decisions on local authorities, two round tables will address the issue of social services of general interest and the issue of cooperation between local authorities.
This conference, moderated by Martine Kis of the 'Courrier des maires' (a French newsletter for mayors), will facilitate an exchange of experiences from across Europe and discussion on the strategies to adopt to anticipate and influence Community decisions. Speakers will include French and European local elected representatives and members of the European Parliament and the Committee of the Regions.
The 'Maison européenne des pouvoirs locaux français' is a grouping of the French mayors association, the Assembly of the departments of France, the Mayors of major cities of France, the Federation of mayors of medium-sized towns of France and the Association of small towns of France.
