The European 'Green Spider Network' annual seminar, from 1 to 4 October in Annecy, aims to exchange best pratices with regard to environmental communication.

The seminar provides a forum for reflection on ways to communicate on sustainable consumption as well as environmental standards such as the REACH Regulation (Registation, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restrictions of Chemical substances) and the Aarhus Convention. The latter focuses on access to information, the public's involvement in the decision-making process and access to justice on environmental matters.

The seminar schedule features the following subjects:
- sustainable consumption and production: how best to raise the awareness of the general public?;
- the REACH regulation on chemicals: how to inform small businesses?;
- the Aarhus Convention: how can it best be enforced?;
- the best communication campaigns of the year.

Most environmental issues are common to all countries, whether these concern climate change, biodiversity, waste, pollution and risks, environmental responsibility, etc., hence the importance of exchanging ideas on communication campaigns, comparing strategies and support materials, and even envisaging joint actions.

Under the auspices of the Environment Directorate-General of the European Commission, the Green Spider Network brings together the communication directors of EU environment ministries and national agencies, as well as their colleagues from Norway, Iceland and Turkey.
