Results of the discussions between the European Union and the Russian Federation on Georgia

The President of the European Council travelled to the Russian Federation and Georgia on Monday 8 September for a working visit. He was accompanied by José Manuel Barroso, the President of the European Commission and Javier Solana, the High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy and Bernard Kouchner, the French Minister for Foreign and European Affairs.

Report from the ministerial conference Building a Europe of asylum

Entitled "Building a Europe of Asylum" in reference to section IV of the draft European Pact on Immigration and Asylum, the Paris conference of 8 and 9 September 2008 laid the groundwork for the second phase of the Common European Asylum System in line with the programme drawn up in The Hague in 2004 and in the context of the work on the draft European Pact on Immigration and Asylum presented by the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Inauguration of the board of directors of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology: Encouraging public/private cooperation in the most strategic areas

Valérie Pécresse, the French Minister of Higher Education and Research, in the presence of José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission, inaugurated the board of directors of the European Institute of Technology (IET), the aim of which is to improve the organisation of the European Research Area.
