This seminar is taking place several days prior to the European Council of the environment ministers which will examine the 'Energy-Climate' Package.
The next Conference of the Parties of the United Nations to the Climate Change Convention will take place in Poznan (Poland) in December 2008. Prior to this, Coordination SUD (an association of French international solidarity NGOs), GRET (a French Group for Research and Technological Exchange) and CAN-F (Climate Action Network - France), are organising a dialogue between government officials, NGOs, international organisations and academics on the issues of the forthcoming negotiations.
In Poznan, the European Union, wishing to reach an ambitious agreement for the post-2012 regime, must take positions that are likely to persuade developing countries to participate fully in the negotiations. The content of the energy-climate package that the EU intends to bring to the negotiating table is of key importance to the ongoing diplomatic process.
This seminar will facilitate discussions aimed at leading to the proposal of new ideas for more coherent European and international policies that help fight climate change and foster development.
