Following the first seminar, organised on 3 July by the French Ministry of Defence's General Delegation for Armaments (DGA), a second meeting bringing together representatives from the European institutions (European Defence Agency - EDA - and the European Commission), Member States and the European defence industry will be held in Paris on 23 September to move forward initiatives aimed at strengthening the European Defence Technological and Industrial Base.
This seminar should enable concrete proposals for action to be put forward which aim to create permanent technological and industrial capabilities in Europe, around three themes:
- facilitating the integration of SMEs in defence projects,
- improving the business and research environments in the field of armaments, and,
- reaching agreement on the priorities for implementing the EDA's strategy in order to strengthen the EDTIB.
The conclusions from this cycle of meetings will be submitted to the National Armaments Directors who are due to meet on 14 October 2008 in Brussels.
