A "Europe at school" day goes out to meet the pupils

‘Europe at school’ is inspired by the ‘Back to School’ event launched in January 2007 by the German Presidency of the Council of the European Union, with the support of the European Commission, and repeated under the Portuguese Presidency in autumn 2007 and the Slovenian Presidency in March 2008.

The ‘Europe at school’ event will see a number of MEPs and ministers visiting schools – in some cases, the schools that they attended when they were young – to meet with pupils and teachers and talk about the EU, its achievements and its future. For his part, the French Minister for Education, Xavier Darcos, will visit the ‘La Cerisaie’ school in Villiers-le-Bel (France). This event is particularly symbolic, as speaking about Europe to young people in schools is speaking to them in the places where a European awareness and identity and openness to the world should be formed.
