European seminar on creative content online

The Creative Content Online seminar will debate two themes: the development of the creative online content economy and how to promote legally available content and combat piracy.
The Creative Content Online seminar will be held in Paris at the Quai Branly Museum from 17 to 19 September. It will bring together well-known European figures involved in creative online content, from all professions (production, publishing and distribution, etc.) and sectors (music, audiovisual, cinema, video games, publishing, etc.). It will be an opportunity to deepen the dialogue between those providing content and content services by facilitating a mutual understanding of the issues at stake, in an aim to better satisfy content users.
Two main subjects will be debated during this seminar :
- Towards which creative online content economy?
- How can legally available content be promoted and how can piracy be combatted?
These two subjects will be addressed in five workshops:
- Uses: How could users' behaviour and the content available evolve and develop? How do people organise the time they spend on the Internet? What is the future, between complementarity and substitution, of these uses?
- Which online financing models for creative online content should be used? Which are the models that work?
- Towards effective interoperability? How can the interoperability of digital right management systems be fostered?
- Towards increased circulation of works online? How can the development of the legal offer and the fight against piracy be promoted?
- Towards rights management at European level? What measures would make it easier to circulate works?
This seminar should allow participants to draw on experiences in Europe and identify initiatives which would be desirable at EU level.
During the informal meeting of European culture and audiovisual ministers of 21 and 22 July 2008, the protection of copyright and related rights on digital networks was addressed.
In that meeting, ministers emphasised the importance of improving consumer information on copyright relating to works disseminated online and of increasing awareness of the consequences of piracy for creativity and cultural diversity.
