Declaration by the Presidency of the Council of the European Union on the attack on Saleh Aridi in Lebanon

The Presidency of the Council of the European Union condemns in the strongest terms the attack that killed Saleh Aridi, member of the Lebanese Democratic Party’s political bureau, and that wounded several people.
We convey our condolences to Mr. Aridi’s family and loved ones.
Full light should be shed on this act. The Presidency of the Council of the European Union reaffirms its commitment alongside Lebanon to fight impunity of perpetrators and organisers of terrorist acts.
The implementation of the post-crisis process initiated by the Doha Agreement, which recently entered a new phase with the announcement of the opening of the national dialogue, must be pursued.
The European Union will continue to play a full role in efforts undertaken in favour of Lebanon’s sovereignty, independence and unity, which are crucial to stability in the region.
