Reinforcing peace and security on the African continent is the objective around which discussions will turn between the 100-odd European and African decision-makers and experts to gather in Paris on 3 and 4 September.

Organised by the French Ministry of Defence, this seminar entitled " EU-Africa: which partnership for crisis management ?" follows on from the conclusions drawn at the last EU-Africa summit held in Lisbon in December, 2007. The EU-Africa Joint Strategy adopted on this occasion identified the strengthening of political dialogue between Africa and the European Union as the key priority. This event will bring together about a hundred decision-makers and experts from the European Union, the African Union, African sub-regional organizations and their Member States.

Three round tables will address the strengthening of EU-AU political dialogue and relations with sub-regional organizations, the support for the African Peace and Security Architecture, and reform policies of the security sector.
This seminar's talks and results could prove useful for the implementation of the African-EU strategy regarding peace and security, for the preparation of the forthcoming EU-AU security meetings, and for the work towards updating the European security strategy, under the supervision of Javier Solana, High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy.
