Six-point agreement on Georgia: mobilisation of the European Union

The General Affairs and External Relations Council of 13 August had recalled the European Union’s attachment to respecting the principles of independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity guaranteed by international law and lent its support to the six-point agreement obtained by the Presidency of the Council of the European Union with Moscow and Tbilisi.

The committee on foreign affairs, the sub-committee on security and defence and the delegation for relations with the South Caucasus will hold a joint meeting in Brussels on Wednesday 20 August in room ASP 3E2 from 16:30 to 17:30. It will be followed by a press briefing at 17:30 by the chair of the committee on foreign affairs and the Georgian minister for foreign affairs.

Meeting on the Climate Convention in Accra

The latest stage in the UN negotiations on climate change is taking place in the International Conference Centre in Accra, Ghana, from 21 to 27 August 2008. This meeting will work towards adopting an international agreement under the terms of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and work on post-2012 emission reductions for industrialized countries under the Kyoto protocol.
