Declaration by the Presidency on behalf of the European Union on the decision of Turkey's Constitutional Court on the suit for closure of the AKP

The European Union takes due note of the decision delivered by the Turkish Constitutional Court on 30 July 2008. The European Union invites all those involved in Turkish politics to resolve their differences in a spirit of dialogue and compromise, while respecting the rule of law and fundamental freedoms.
The European Union, which is attentive to the democratic functioning of the institutions, will continue to watch the situation in Turkey carefully.
