The French Presidency held an intergovernmental accession conference with Croatia on 25 July to open negotiations on an additional chapter and close negotiations on another chapter.
The French Presidency held an intergovernmental accession conference with Croatia on 25 July to open negotiations on Chapter 1 "Free movement of goods" and to temporarily close negotiations on Chapter 20 "Enterprise and Industrial Policy" (opened on 21 December 2006). A total of 21 chapters have thus been opened and three temporarily closed since Croatia's membership negotiations began on 3 October 2005. This conference regarding Croatia's membership negotiations marks an important first step in the French Presidency. The goal of the Presidency is, if requirements are met, to open nearly all negotiation chapters and close as many as possible by the end of the year.
