The Conference of Foreign Affairs Committee Chairpersons of the Parliaments of the Member States (COFACC) traditionally meets at the beginning of a presidency at the national parliament of the incumbent presidency.
The COFACC meeting will be held over three days from the 20 to 22 July. On 21 July Bernard Kouchner, Minister of Foreign and Euopean Affairs will address current international affairs and the role of the European Union. At the end of the morning session on 21 July, Jean-Pierre Jouyet, Minister of State with responsibility for European Affairs will discuss the priorities of the French Presidency. Javier Solana, High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy and Vaira Vike-Freiberga, Vice-Chair of the reflection group on the future of the European Union up to 2020-2030 will also participate in the meeting.
On 22 July, COFACC will meet the former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, special Middle East envoy, who will set out his views on the role of the European Union in the solution to the Middle East conflict and Josette Sheeran, Executive Director of the World Food Programme (WFP), who will talk about the international food crisis and the role of the WFP.
