The French Minister of Foreign and European Affairs presented the priorities of the French Presidency to the OSCE on 17 July.
On 17 July the French Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Bernard Kouchner, presented the priorities of the French Presidency to the Permanent Council of the OSCE in Vienna and met the Secretary-General of the OSCE, Marc Perrin de Brichambaut.
The French Presidency proposes strengthening EU-OSCE cooperation on regional issues, particularly conflict prevention, frozen conflicts and Afghanistan. The French Presidency also supports the continued involvement of the OSCE in Kosovo, which fulfills an important mission to ensure the democratic and muti-ethnic future of Kosovo, especially in relation to preserving the rights of non-Albanian communities.
Particular attention will be given to central Asia from a security point of view.
The French Presidency will focus on three security dimensions: politico-military (promotion of a global approach to security); economic and environmental (support for the discussions launched under Finland's Chairmanship of the OSCE on the future of this dimension); and human (60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and women's rights).
During his trip, Bernard Kouchner met Ursula Plassnik, Austria's Minister for European and International Affairs to discuss the situation in the Balkans, the Barcelona Process: Union for the Mediterranean and other major international issues.
