- On: 11.07.2008
The Presidency of the European Union condemns in the strongest terms the recent attack on the UNAMID detachment in Sudan near Um Hakibah, 100 kilometres southeast of El Fasher.
The Presidency of the European Union is particularly concerned about the information that it has received on the massive scale of the attack in which several dozen armed vehicles were expressly deployed to inflict losses on the UN and African Union peacekeepers.
It conveys its condolences to the families of the UNAMID peacekeepers who were killed in the attack as well as to the United Nations Secretary-General and the Chairman of the African Union Commission.
It provides its full support to the many members of the UNAMID staff who were injured in this operation and all those who are devoted to furthering peace in Sudan.
It calls on all parties, and first and foremost the Sudanese Government, to cooperate with UNAMID with a view to swiftly establishing the circumstances behind the attack and those responsible.
